AOC Team Aus Golden Glory Limited Edition Print ***PRE-ORDER***
Tokyo has seen, if not already one of the most successful, then one of the most repeatedly inspirational Olympic teams to ever represent Australia. In a Games like no other in history, Australia have produced one of its greatest ever Olympic campaigns claiming a medals of all colours in a broad range of sports and disciplines. Our success in Tokyo has not solely been built upon immense talent and drive, it has been built upon sacrifice, mateship and an undying passion for the green and gold. For every medal, for every Olympic and World Record, we have seen Oceanic, National Records and a torrent of personal bests achieved. In Tokyo, everywhere you look – Australians have saved their best for the biggest stage.
The performances across the board have been consistently astonishing, but Emma McKeon’s week of glory was quite literally unrivalled in Australian Olympic history. Taking every triumph, accolade and ovation with a typically Australian humility, McKeon’s swimming did the talking, confirming her status as Australia’s most decorated Olympian. Ours Mens and Womens Fours in the Rowing were sublime. Jess Fox captured not just gold but a nation’s hearts. Ariarne Titmus – ‘Arnie’, the Terminator – conquered the unconquerable. Our sailors were so dominant that by the end, the only thing testing their vice grip on gold would have been disqualification… and Logan Martin was just out of this world.
Not everything is about the top of the podium though. Peter Bol’s 800 metre campaign may do more for Athletics for the next Aussie generation than any other performance in the modern era. Kyle Chalmers, a non-starter if the Olympics had have been last year, pulled out a series of simply freakish swims against the Caleb Dressel. Rohan Browning – 10.01s, enough said. And perhaps one of the most enduring moments for any Australian worth their salt would be watching Pat Tiernan take it to the world’s best in the 10000m, and despite his body betraying him in the final moments, his grit and determination to complete the race in incomprehensible physical adversity was as spine-tingling and inspirational as any world record.
Every Australian to simply make it to Tokyo has endured, has sacrificed, and has duly represented us with aplomb. Golden Glory is for all of them.
